“Native taskbar indicator. Exactly what I need.”
Everything about the classic and why a new tool is the better choice for Windows 10/11
To keep internet speed visible at all times, NetSpeedMonitor used to be the standard on many Windows PCs. It was originally built for Windows XP and 7/8 and later discontinued. Since Windows 11 it no longer works as it originally did and often only with workarounds. There is a modern alternative for today’s 64-bit Windows 11 systems that continues the idea with precise measurements, clean design, and extensive options: the “HighspeedMonitor” for Windows 10/11.
Its hallmark was a slim taskbar toolbar that showed live throughput for download and upload. It also logged data usage. That helped users on capped mobile plans answer: how much volume did I use today / yesterday / this week / this month?
Since late 2025 there’s a significantly improved alternative called HighspeedMonitor. It continues the concept with modern technology and visualization. Crucially, its taskbar indicator works without extra tools or workarounds.
